Ex Vivo – Hair
CIDP Preclinical laboratory has developed ex vivo studies using natural hair strands to substantiate the protective and repairing effect of hair care products. The study can be conducted on hair of different ethnic origin (Indian, African, Caucasian and Chinese).
The effect of different stressors on the hair can be evaluated and include:
External stressors such as
- UV
- Air Pollution (cigarette smoke, dust…)
- Water pollution
Chemical stressors such as
- Hydrogen peroxide
- Bleaching
- Heat
- Straightener
ANALYSIS
To substantiate protective and repairing effect, different parameters can be analyzed and include:
- Biomarkers such as Malondialdehyde (MDA), free fatty acids, the melanin and protein content, and Tryptophan degradation.
- Heavy metal detection and quantification by ICP-MS.
- Monitoring of hair structure by scanning electron microscopy.
- Monitoring of the protein carbonylation of hair.
- Monitoring of hair glossiness
